About Shelter Island


Shelter Island Ferries run every five minutes (only a few minutes journey) - no reservation needed, cash only - all year round.

Seven is open year round.  Shelter Island is accessible form the North and South, by two very quick and easy car ferries (8 minutes ride) cash only, and no reservation is required. 

These ferries run every five to ten minutes and transport 26 cars at a time from the North (Greenport, NY) wine vineyard country, and from the South (North Haven, NY)  3 miles from Sag Harbor and the Hamptons.

By cars: 495 West (Long Island Expressway) to Riverhead, NY and then take Route 48 West to Greenport. In Greenport you will take the Shelter Island North Ferry (afive minute ferry ride which takes 26 cars at a time, and runs every five minutes. Cash only, no reservation needed.) Approximately $20 (You may also access Shelter Island from the South Ferry in North Haven, NY (3 mile drive from Sag Harbor)

Luxury Bus:  Take the Hamptons Jitney Luxury Bus to Greenport, NY then walk onto the Shelter Island North Ferry.

Shelter Island is also accessible via Long Island Railroad with the final stop in Greenport, NY.

Airplane: Long Island McArthur Airport in Islip, NY is 60 miles drive from Shelter Island. JFK and LaGuardia are also options. The Hampton Jitney also serves these airports.
